Don Mattrick makes a bold claim

Default Head of Xbox: Nintendo copied us

Ever since E3 2008 when Don Mattrick first unveiled Microsoft's new avatar system, they have fell under criticism for copying Nintendo's 'Mii's'. However Don Mattrick has come out in an interview with OXM UK and has gone on record to say that he invented the whole avatar concept in the first place. He claims that the game '4D boxing', made by his company, on Amiga, DOS, Atari ST and Macintosh, was the first game to feature avatars.

After doing some research, it turns out that 4D Boxing was the first game ever to use 'avatar like' characters. Whether this game really did start the ball-rolling or whether it's just a convenient is down to your own interpretation.

I think miis aren't good enough anyway!
I wish that they WERE more like the XBOX ones, The XBOX avatars actually look like something you wouldn't call crap.

(Typing on Wii)

"Xbox head: Nintendo copied us"
After reading the article the title appears to be misleading to me.

"First game to feature avatars" is not a "bold" claim imo.

errrm tbh does it really matter, either way it helps the games being more unique, i am sure they wont start the childish 'i started this', 'stop copying me' sort of thing xD

Lol, Xbox avaters do look more like people than cartoon mii type people. Although Mii's could easily be improved by having more features, e.g. ears, clothes.
