[DS] DS outsells GBA, Wii outsells N64

The GBA, the popular successor to the GBC, sold 81million units in its lifetime. Nintendo released sales figures which revealed record sales, and that the Nintendo Ds has finally outsold the GBA in terms of total units sold. The DS has revealed to have sold 84 million, eating the GBA's 81 million.

The Wii has also been revealed to have outsold its older brother, the Nintendo 64. The Wii now has passed two major milestones, overtaking sales of both the Gamecube and the Nintendo 64, and on track to become the best selling Nintendo console of all time.

• With shipments of 84.33 million hardware units worldwide, the portable Nintendo DS has surpassed cumulative shipments for Nintendo’s iconic Game Boy Advance (81.36 million).
• Nintendo DS has shipped 454.63 million software units worldwide.
• Shipments of Nintendogs, the puppy-interaction game for Nintendo DS, have topped 20 million worldwide.
• Shipments of the Wii console are at 34.55 million hardware units and 229.85 million software units worldwide.
• Shipments of Wii Fit have topped 8.7 million worldwide.

I'm happy that the DS has finally sold out the GBA, but I think we all knew the Wii would eventually pass up the 64.... I'm I right?

No, i'd say they were an all round-ish success. People wouldn't buy them if they weren't good. It's innovative, different from anything else. Thats why they sell loads, as games apply to all the family and not just the "gamer".

The Wii is a 'sales' success as it does not have a large amount of great games. If anyone wants to argue may I point you in the direction of metacritic.com

Actually the Wii does have a large amount of great games considering it was only released in Europe 24 months ago. Nintendo are the only games company to keep the games market alive through true innovation. Xbox and Playstation only survive because of the HUGE companies owning them and the buying power they have to secure licenses and franchises. Nintendo survive because of their ingenuity and business acumen.
If you wish to argue I point you to the fact that Nintendo have always had more than 50% of sales in the videogame market since the NES. Even now they have 52% of the market even though there are 3 big names competing.
If Wii was a 'sales' success it would have needed a big marketing push but this was not required. The Wii sold itself because it was such an original idea.

Yeah 'cause Metacritic is the best...

Games with low scores can be good as well you know. Just because Halo, GTA and Gears get higher scores, they can also be very over rated. Like Mario Galaxy, every reviewer said that it was the best game ever made, but I don't like it that much at all.

yeah how good games are, are based on your own opinion, not some gaming critic ok so some nintendo Wii games are pretty naff, but there are so may games that speak to all different types of people which is why so many may seem rubbish too alot of people
